Vance Worley came off the DL and started for the first time since May 12 Monday night. Vance was a little rusty the first few innings, but seemed to settle in after the 2nd. The Dodgers scored 2 in the 1st and 1 in the second, before the Phillies tied it with 3 in the 3rd. Worley made it through 4 innings, limited by a low pitch count. In all, he threw 80 pitches, 50 of them strikes, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 4 and receiving no decision. Joe Savery came in for ther next 2.1 innings, giving up just 1 hit and keeping the game tied, before giving the ball to Antonio Bastardo. Bastardo was not himself, struggling with his control, but battled his way through 1.2 innings, also allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3. The Dodgers scored off Papelbon in the 9th for a 4-3 win. Freddy Galvis had 2 singles, including an RBI hit to score the first of 3 runs in the 3rd inning rally, and Carlos Ruiz (.368) picked up 1 for 4.
In San Francisco, the Giants came from behind to edge the Cubs, 3-2. Adrian Cardenas had a pinch hit double for Chicago in the 7th inning. Cardenas has had 5 hits since his call-up, all of them doubles!
