Cloyd wins 6th; Ruf goes deep again

Tyler Cloyd won his 6th game in 7 starts this year, 3 with Reading and his 3rd last night for the IronPigs, with 7 strong innings in Indianapolis.  Tyler (3-0, 0.90 with the Pigs) allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 6 in Lehigh Valley's 5-1 win.  Derrick Mitchell (.255 and rising) had 2 hits, including a home run (#3), driving in 4 of the 5 runs.  Mike Spidale and Cody Overbeck also had 2 hits each,  and BJ Rosenberg  (1.93) threw the final 2 frames to seal the deal.  The IronPigs, 18-15 on the season,  trail first place Pawtcuket by 3 games.


In New Britain, Darin Ruf (.393) homered for the 4th game in a row, this time a grand slam, and drove in 6 runs to power Reading to a 10-3 win over the Rock Cats.  Steve Susdorf, Leandro Castro, and Tyson Gillies all had 2 hits for Reading.  Drew Naylor was the starter and winner, going 5 innings, Mike Cisco allowed 1 run in 2 frames and Jay Johnson tossed a scoreless innning.  Reading improves to 21-11.

In Lakewood, Lino Martinez pitched 7 sparkling innings, allowing just 3 hits and Mikael Franco hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th to give the BlueCalws a 1-0 win over first place Greensboro.  Mattt Campbelll (1-1, 1.80) was the winning pitcher with 2 scoreless frames of his own

In Bradenton, Anthony Hewitt had 2 more hits, including his 4th home run of the year, but the Threshers were pounded, 16-3 by the Marauders.  "Brooklyn" has hit in 6 of the last 7, going 14 for 27 (.519) over the stretch.  The Threshers are now 17-15 for the season.

In Memphis, Randy Ruiz was 1 for 3 for Reno, driving in 3 runs for the Aces, helping them to a 6-4 win over the Redbirds.  Randy leads the PCL with 34 RBI..........In Erie, Zack Segovia won his 4th game for the Sea Wolves, going 5 innings against Altoona, and giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks in Erie's 8-4 win over the Curve........In Jackson, Jason Jaramillo had 2 hits for Huntsville as the Stars took a 3-2, 11-inning game from the Generals.

The Minnesota Twins have designated Matt Maloney for assignment.
