In New York Monday, Cole Hamels won for the 8th time in a row after losing his first start, by throwing 8 solid innings against the Mets in the Phillies 8-4 win. Cole allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6 along the way. He also had a base hit in the game.
It was win #27 for the Homeside this year.
In Pittsburgh, the Pirates topped the Reds, 4-1. Alfredo Simon (1.74) threw 3 shut out innings of relief for Cincinnati, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk, and striking out 2........In Boston, Quintin Berry (.360) made it a 6-game hitting streak with a hit in 5 at bats for the Tigers, who lost to the Red Sox, 7-4............In Denver, the Rockies swept a doubleheader from the Astros, 9-7 and 7-6. Josh Outman threw a 1-2-3 frame in the second game for Colorado.
