Chooch opens smokin'

The Phillies backed the great pitching of Roy Halladay with a 1-0 opening day win in Pittsburgh. Carlos Ruiz' hot spring continued with a 3 for 3 day, and he drove in the lone run with a sacrifice fly. Freddy Galvis was 0 for 4 in his major league debut, but turned 2 nice double plays at second base.

In New York, Michael Bourn started 2012 with an 0 for 4 as the Mets shut out the Braves, 1-0 behind Johan Santana...............In Cleveland, the Toronto Blue Jays took 16 innings to beat the Indians, 6-4. Jason Donald came off the bench and had a walk in 3 plate appearances.
