Vance Worley pitched 7 shut out innings Thursday night in San Diego, striking out a career high 11 batters, and allowing just 4 hits while walking 3, as the Phillies beat the Padres, 2-0 in the opener of the their weekend set. The Phillies managed just 6 hits in the win, none for either Carlos Ruiz or Freddy Galvis.
In Chicago, Gavin Floyd was not so fortunate. Gavin threw 6 innings for the Sox against the orioles, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 6 as Baltimore topped the Sox, 5-3. Floyd is now 1-2, 4.58 in his 3 starts...........In Phoenix, Michael Bourn had 2 more hits and 2 walks, and scored a run for the Braves as Atlanta thrashed the Diamondbacks, 10-2. Bourn has raised his average this week up to .283............In Seattle, Jason Donald (.238) was 1 for 4 for the Indians, who scored 2 in the 9th to edge the Mariners, 2-1.
