Pointer slams Drive

Carlos Ruiz (.311) had 2 hits, including his 3rd home run of the season, and knocked in 3 runs to help lead the Phillies to a 5-2 win over the Cubs in Philadelphia Saturday.....In Atlanta, Michael Bourn rapped out 2 more hits for the Braves in a 4-2 win over the Pirates.  Bourn has now hit in 9 of his last 10, going 18 for 40 (.450) over that stretch, to raise his average to .326.

In Lakewood, Brian Pointer replaced Guantlett Eldemire after Eldemire was hit by a pitch in the second inning, and went on to get 3 hits, including the game-tying grand slam home run in the 7th inning and the BlueClaws went on to walk off in the 12th with a 6-5 win over Greenville.  Bob Stumpo made his Lakewood debut with a 3-hit game, and Miakel Franco got the game winning hit.  Colton Murray was the winning pitcher, working out of constant trouble for 2 innings. Stumpo joined Lakewood earlier in the day from Clearwater, with Drew Hillman being sent to extended spring training.

In Allentown, the IronPigs lost again to the Yankees, 8-4.  Derrick Mitchell had 2 hits, including his 2nd home run of the year, and drove in 2 runs, Cody Overbeck added 2 hits, and Domonic Brown chipped in with a hit. BJ Rosenberg threw 2 shut out innings (2 hits, 1 walk, 2Ks) for Lehigh Valley.

Jim Murphy hit his 3rd home run of the year in the 1st inning, leading the Threshers to a 10-3 road win over Brevard County.  Murphy drove in 3 runs (17) on the day, and Peter Lavin (.303) and Albert Cartwright (.246) added 2 hits each for Clearwater.  Colby Shreve threw 2 perfect innings for the Threshers.

In Portland, the Sea Dogs ripped Jonathan Pettibone for 6 runs, although only 2 were earned, on 6 hits and 4 walks in just 3.2 innings en route to a 9-1 win over Reading.  Troy Hazawa (.293) picked up 2 hits and drove in the lone run for the R-Phils.

In Las Vegas, Travis d'Arnaud (.263)  had 3 hits, including his 2nd home run, drove in 3 runs and scored 2 more for the 51s in their 15-5 pounding of Tacoma.........In Syracuse, the Chiefs and the Charlotte Knights split a doubleheader.  Greg Golson (.313) was 2 for 5, with a double and 3 runs scored on the day.......In Toledo, the Braves romped over the Mud Hens, 8-3.  Quintin Berry (.286) had a hit and a walk for Toledo.......In Salt Lake City, Randy Ruiz (.361) had a single and a double and knocked in a run (#20) for Reno in the Aces' 5-2 win over the Bees........In Pearl, Jesus Sanchez (2-0, 1.04) threw 3 fine innings in relief, allowing just 1 walk, striking out 3 to notch the win for Huntsville in their 2-1, 10-inning win over the Braves......In Frisco, the Corpus Christi Hooks ripped the Rough Riders, 10-1.  Jonathan Villar had a double, 2 RBI and scored a run, and Jonathan Singleton added a single and a walk.
