lets get it started

The first item of note this morning is the Orioles' waiving Alfredo Simon, who was immediately signed by the Reds. The Orioles meantime, signed former BlueClaw outfielder Chris Roberson.

The Phillies ended their preseason with a 7-2 win over the Pirates in Philadelphia. Cole Hamels was sharp in his final tune-up for the season, throwing 4 shut out innings and allowing just 3 hits, NO walks, while striking out 5. Antonio Bastardo's up and down spring ended with him retiring 2 of 3 hitters, allowing a run on a hit. Freddy Galvis (1 for 1) and Carlos Ruiz (1 for 2) each had a double to aid the offense.

Back down in Dunedin, the Blue Jays pounded the Tigers, 13-8. Kyle Drabek threw 5 innings in relief, allowing 5 runs (just 3 earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 2 and recording a save for Toronto.........In Houston, the White Sox defeated the Astros, 5-1. Jonathan Singleton was 1 for 1 and finishes spring training with a .455 average in major league camp. Jonathan Villar also got into the game late to play defense. I believe they are both headed to AA-Corpus Christi this season..........In Phoenix, Jason Jaramillo (let go by the Cubs and signed by the Brewers) was 0 for 1 for Milwaukee in their 5-3 loss to the D-Backs.

Major league rosters have to be set by this afternoon, so we will get a better feel for who will be where to start the season later today. Stay tuned.............
