Phillies win, Nationals beat Simon

Thursday in Philadelphia, the Phillies topped the Marlins, 3-1, behind very strong pitching from Joe Blanton. Carlos Ruiz was 0 for 3, slipping to .375, and Freddy Galvis was 1 for 3 and is now 3 for 20 (.150) to start his career.

In Washington, the Nationals walked off in the 10th inning inning after Brad Lidge blew the save in the 9th, defeating Alfredo Simon. Simon hit Ryan Zimmerman with a pitch leading off and wild pitched him home with 2 outs, giving the Nats a 3-2 win.

The Astros have announced that Sergio Escalona has had Tommy John surgery and will miss all of the 2012 season.
