4 starts, no wins

In the last 2 days, former BlueClaws have made 4 major league starts, resulting in no wins. OUCH!...

We begin with the best performance: Thursday at Wrigley Field, Gavin Floyd took the hill for the White Sox against the crosstown rival Cubs. Floyd (4-5) went 7 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks (and 2 successful sac bunts!), and left the game with a 3-1 lead. The Sox extended the lead to 5-1 in the top of the 8th, only to lose it 6-5 on a Alfonzo Soriano single in the bottom of the 9th.

At Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, the Atlanta Braves roughed up Matt Maloney in Atlanta's 7-0 shut out of the Reds on Thursday. Maloney (0-2) gave up 6 runs on 6 hits, including 2 home runs, in 6 innings, in which he threw 109 pitches.

Friday night at Petco Park, Josh Outman (4-1) had to leave the game in the 2nd inning with a "mild flexor-extensor strain" in his left (pitching ) elbow. It has not been determined whether Josh will make his next scheduled start, but I will keep my eyes open for any info. The Athletics came from behind to beat the Padres, 7-5.

The results were mixed for Antonio Bastardo (2-2) Friday in Philadelphia. He did give up 4 runs on 5 hits, NO walks, striking out 5 in his 7 innings, but suffered the loss when the Orioles beat the Phils, 7-2. At one point, Bastardo did retire 10 straight Orioles, and I think showed enough to earn another start in the Phillie's beleaguered rotation.

The hitters are not faring much better, Ryan Howard is 1 for 8 the last 2 games, and Carlos Ruiz just 1 for 6. Jason Jaramillo was 0 for 3 in the Pirates 5-1 loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Michael Bourn, hitting .294 and the bright spot in this dark report, was 2 for 6 the last 2 days, with a triple, 2 walks, and 2 RBI
