Ellison slam leads Pigs to win

The IronPigs won their 8th game in the last 9 tries on Monday night, defeating Norfolk 11-1 in a rain shortened affair. Jason Ellison hit the big blow, a grand slam home run in the 7-run 4th inning which gave Lehigh a 9-2 lead. Mike Spidale had a walk and 2 more hits (Mike is 14 for 41, .341 in 10 games since arriving from Reading) and Lou Marson had another hit and another RBI.

Kyle Kendrick started for the Pigs, but an hour and a half rain delay in the bottom of the 1st inning ended his evening after just 2 hitters. Francisco Butto came in when the game resumed and benefited from all the offense, recording win #1 with 2.2 innings of work, allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.

In Clearwater, the Threshers resumed play after their All-Star break, losing to Tampa 4-3. All-Stars Tim Kennelly and Fidel Hernandez had 2 hit each, Steve Susdorf had a hit and an RBI in his Clearwater debut and Santo Hernandez was "lights out" again, pitching 2 hitless innings, and striking out 3.

Julian Sampson was the starter for the Threshers and went the first 3 innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk. He was charged with the loss and is now 1-8 with a 7.74 ERA for the year. OUCH! Manny Ayala was roughed up for 3 runs on 4 hits in just 1.2 innings, before Chris Kissock and Hernandez restored order.

In Batavia, New York, the Crosscutters dropped a 6-5 decision to the Muckdogs. T.J. Warren (.571), OF Jiwan James (.286) and SS Jeremy Barnes (.389) had 2 hits each for the Cutters and OF Michael Dabbs (.471) had a triple and 3 RBI.
