Velasquez shines in BlueClaws win


Jon Velasquez (on the left above) threw his best game of the season Monday night in Lakewood, throwing 7 1-hit innings against Hagerstown in the BlueClaw's 3-0 win. Velasquez, from the Bronx, improved to a league leading 8-2 on the year, walking just 1 hitter while striking out 6. Rob Roth, in his first appearance since April 27, got 2 outs in the 8th inning, before walking the next 2 hitters and yielding to B.J. Rosenberg, who recorded his 8th save.


Steve Susdorf continued his hot hitting, with 2 more hits and 2 more RBI, making 5 hits and 5 RBI in the last 2 games, while Anthony Gose had an RBI double, scored 2 runs and stole 2 MORE bases, running his league leading total to 39 in 55 games.


Lakewood maintains their 2.5 game lead over Delmarva, who came from behind to beat Lake County, 8-7.
