Threshers offense explodes!

The Clearwater Threshers broke out for 17 hits Tuesday night in a 9-1 trouncing of Sarasota. Mike Durant and Tim Kennelly had 4 hits each and Fidel Hernandez, who is having a great season, added 3 knocks. Cody Overbeck drove in 3 runs with a double and his 7th home run of the year. Drew Naylor was the beneficiary of all the offense, throwing 7 shut out innings, giving up just 4 hits, while striking out 9 to improve his record to 4-6, 4.24 on the season. Manny Ayala (1 IP, 1 run) and Walter Tejeda ( 1 IP, 1 hit, 2 Ks) finished off the Reds.

Mike Spidale had 4 singles and a walk, stole a base and scored 3 times Tuesday night, as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs pummeled the Durham Bulls, 16-8. Mike is now 8 for 18 (that's .444) since being moved up from Reading last week. Andrew Carpenter improved to 6-0 on the year, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits. Drew gave up 7 runs, but only 3 were earned, before yielding to Sergio Escalona. Sergio got the next 7 outs, allowing only 1 hit while striking out 2, and Francisco Butto gave up a run on 3 hits in the 9th.
