Sanchez pitches Lakewood to victory

Continuing the great pitching laid down by the BlueClaw's starters this week, Jesus Sanchez (2-4) threw his best outing of the year, leading the BlueClaws to a 5-2 win over Lake County. Sanchez (on the right in the photo) threw 6 scoreless innings, before giving up a single and a double to start the 7th. Enter Santo "lights out" Hernandez. I cannot say enough about Hernandez, who has been there time and again for Lakewood this season. Santo got out of the 7th, allowing just 1 run to score and continued through the 8th inning, recording his 4th "hold" and lowering his stellar ERA to 2.13. B.J. Rosenberg came in for the 9th inning, to pick up his 9th save, after Rob Roth struggled again. Roth walked the only 2 hitters he faced, and has been having trouble with his control since coming off the DL. Harold Garcia had 2 hits for Lakewood, Travis D'Arnaud drove in 2 more runs, and the BlueClaws set a team record by hitting 3 triples in a game (by Gose, Garcia and Mattair) for the first time in the 9-year history of the team.

Our thanks go out to the Hagerstown Suns, who beat Delmarva 5-3, helping Lakewood extend their hold on first place to 2.5 games. The Suns and Shorebirds will play 2 tonight, and Lakewood will again take on the Captains, with Jon Velasquez (8-2), who coming off his best showing of the year, getting the start.
