Outman, Bastardo both lose first

In the latest major league game last night, Josh Outman dropped his first decision of the year, after 4 wins, to Randy Johnson and the Giants, 5-2. Josh pitched well enough, giving up 2 runs over the first 6 innings, but began the 7th by giving up 2 hits. The Oakland bullpen let both runners score and Josh's line finished with 6 IP, 4 earned runs on 5 hits, NO walks, and 4 strike outs.

In Philadelphia, Antonio Bastardo was victimized by 3 Philadelphia errors in the top of the 1st inning, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned on 3 hits and 3 walks, and the Red Sox went on to an 11-6 win. The game was then delayed for over an hour and a half due to the rain. Sergio Escalona pitched the 6th and 7th innings for the Phils, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits to the Red (hot) Sox. Ryan Howard had 2 hits for Philly and Carlos Ruiz added a walk and a hit.

In Pittsburgh, Jason Jaramillo (.288) had a single and a double to help the Pirates post a 9-3 win over the Tigers.

Today's schedule has J.A. Happ (4-0, 2.98) going for Philadelphia as they try to salvage a game in the Boston series.
