Cole losses cool

As the frustration of the Phillies current slide continued last night in Toronto, the usually cool Cole Hamels was removed from the game with 2 outs in the 5th inning by Charlie Manuel. On his way to the dugout, Hamels had words for home plate umpire Mark Carlson and became the first Phillies player to be tossed from a game this year.

Cole was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks, and saw his record fall to 4-4, 4.44 for the year. The Phillies, who eventually lost 6-1, did not get their first hit until Chase Utley led off the 7th with a single. Philadelphia has now lost 11 of the last 13, and will send J.A. Happ (4-0) to the mound this afternoon to face the Jays and right the ship.

In Pittsburgh, Jason Jaramillo his his 3rd home run of the year and helped the Pirates to a 5-3 win over the Royals. In Houston, Michael Bourn had 2 hits and 2 walks, as the Astros came from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the Tigers, 5-4.
