Drew Carpenter threw 8 shut out innings as the IronPigs continued their winning ways with a 5-0 victory over Indianapolis. Drew allowed just 5 hits and 1 walk, striking out 7 to improve to 7-1, 2.75 on the year. If Antonio Bastardo cannot make his next start, Carpenter is certainly a candidate. Mike Spidale (.353) had 3 hits, scored a run, drove in a run and stole a base for Lehigh Valley and Lou Marson had 2 hits and 2 RBI as Lehigh Valley improved to 13-3 in the last 16 games, and at 37-38 is only 6 games out of first place.
In Nashville, the Sounds beat Oklahoma City 11-5, Greg Golson (.279) had a single and a double for the RedHawks. In Las Vegas, Kevin Howard (.287) had 2 more hits and drove in a run, and Randy Ruiz (.323) was 1 for 4 and drove in his 65th run of the year, but the 51s lost to Sacramento, 11-5. In Reno, the Aces scored 6 runs off Andy Baldwin in the first 2 innings en route to a 6-5 win over Tacoma. Baldwin ended up throwing 7.2 innings altogether, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned on 9 hits and 1 walk, to fall to 5-5, 4.90 on the year. Chris Roberson (.296) had 1 for 4 for Reno.
In Midland, Adrian Cardenas (.344) had 2 more hits and scored a run as the Rock Hounds beat San Antonio 6-4. In San Jose, Scott Mitchinson pitched 4 innings for Stockton, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 6, and was charged with the loss in the Giant's 7-1 win over the Ports. Mitchinson, who missed all of May with an injury, has now pitched 3 times since being reactivated by the Oakland affiliate, going 2, 3 and 4 innings respectively as they continue to stretch him out again.
