The Lakewood BlueClaws rode a superior pitching performance by Heitor Correa to a 6-5 victory over Delmarva Tuesday night, reducing their magic number to just 2 for the first half title. Heitor was fantastic, allowing NO runs on just 2 hits and 2 walks in his 6 innings, throwing a total of 97 pitches. He left the game with a 6-0 lead and had to sweat it out with the rest of us, as Ryan Ariail allowed Delmarva back in the game. Ariail struggled through just .2 inning, and was charged with 5 runs. He walked 2 and gave up 3 hits, and all 5 runners scored. Ryan Bergh (1.1 IP) and B.J. Rosenberg restored order, BJ striking out all 3 hitters in a 1-2-3 9th inning, to pick up his 11th save.
Zack Collier and Troy Hanzawa had 2 hits apiece, and everyone in the Lakewood line up had a hit. Steve Susdorf and Anthony Gose each drove in 2 runs, and Collier (#12), Harold Garcia (#20)and Gose (his league leading 42nd) all stole a base. Garcia is 10 for his last 22 (.455) after slumping for a little bit, but appears to be back on track now. Gose is now 19 for his last 59 (.322) and Travis Mattair is hottest of all, 19 for his last 51 (.373)
Travis D'Arnaud had a hit and a walk, and now has a modest 7-game hitting streak. Travis is 9 for 25 (.360) in the 7 games.
Lakewood can clinch the division tonight in Hagerstown with a win and little help. The BlueClaws lead Delmarva and Kannapolis by 5 games with 6 left. Jesus Sanchez (2-4) who had his best start of the year last week at Lake County, get tonight's assignment against the Suns.
