Velasquez strong in Threshers debut

Jon Velasquez threw 6 shut out innings in his Clearwater debut Friday night, allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks in Clearwater's 5-3 win over Jupiter. Brett Harker (1.95 ERA) started for the Hammerheads and was impressive also, going 6 and allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits, NO walks. Neither figured in the decision as Jupiter scored 3 off Mike Schwimer in the 9th to send the game to extra innings and the Threshers won it in the 10th. Carlos Monasterios threw another good 1.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 2.81 and Darren Byrd recorded his first save with a scoreless 10th.

Arlon Quiroz (.231) had 3 hits, including a double, drove in a run and stole his 14th base of the season.

Lakewood's game was suspended in the 3rd inning and will resume tonight at 6:00 before the regular game, and Reading's game in Trenton suffered the same fate.

O, I forgot to mention 2006 BlueClaw Andy Barb showed up in town with Delmarva this week. Andy missed all of 2008 with injury problems and will be attempting a comeback in the Orioles system. Barb was traded to Seattle in mid-season in 2006 as part of the Jamie Moyer deal.
