Saturday night in Norfolk, Carlos Carrasco continued his return to form for the IronPigs, with another good 7 innings. Carlos allowed just 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks, 5 Ks, to record his 3rd win this month in the Pigs' 5-3 win over the Tides. Carlos has now won 3 of his last 4 starts. Mike Spidale was 3 for 4, and Lou Marson picked up a double and 2 RBI.
In Reading, after Brad Lidge threw a scoreless 1st inning, Joe Savery came on for the R-Phils and tossed 5 shut out frames to improve to 9-1, 3.24 on the year. Savery allowed just 4 hits and a walk, striking out 5 in Reading's 6-2 win. O yeah, he also got 2 hits!! Pat Overholt gave up the 2 runs in 1.2 innings of work, before Mike Zagurski came on the retire all 4 hitter he faced, 2 by strike out, to notch his 3rd save.
Quintin Berry (.281) had 3 hits to pace the attack, Tuffy Gosewisch had a walk, a single and a double, and Mike Taylor belted a grand slam home run, his 11th dinger of the year and increased his RBI total to 46.
In Fort Myers last night, the North division won the FSL All-Star game 6-4. Tim Kennelly (0 for 4), Fidel Hernandez (0 for 2), Yohan Flande (1 IP, no runs), and Carlos Monasterios (1 IP, no runs) all participated for the North squad.
In Williamsport, the Crosscutters lost their home opener, 4-3 to State College. After pounding out 19 hits Friday, the Cutters got 10 more last night. DH Michael Dabbs had 3 hits and an RBI, shortstop Jeremy Barnes had 2 hits, including a home run, scored twice and drove in 2 more, and second baseman Evan Porter had a single and a triple for Williamsport.
Jonathan Pettibone threw 5 scoreless innings in his debut. The 18- year old from Yorba Linda, California allowed just 2 hits and 1 walks, striking out 6 in an impressive performance.
