The Delmarva Shorebirds banged out 18 hits, leading to a 13-9 win over Lakewood in the rubber game of their series last night in Lakewood. Justin De Fratus took the loss in his first start of the year, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits over the first 3 innings. De Fratus will limited to 50 pitches as the staff stretches him out slowly to go into the rotation. Rob Roth was also hit hard, allowing 6 runs in 2.1 innings, and Ryan Bergh absorbed some punishment, too, giving up 4 runs, 3 earned on 7 hits in 2.2 innings of work. Jared Simon, here on a rehab assignment, threw a 1-2-3 9th inning.
Offensively, Moose Mattair had 3 hits and 2 RBI, Harold Garcia, Jim Murphy, and Troy Hanzawa had 2 hits each, with Garcia, Zack Collier and Murph, who hit a long home run (his 7th) all driving in 2 runs. Lakewood trailed 12-2 in the 6th inning but did not roll over, battling back and making a game of it in the end with a 5-run 9th inning rally.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers come into town tonight and Lakewood will send Jason Knapp to the hill.
