Claws split, stay 4 in front

The BlueClaws and the Shorebirds split their doubleheader Monday, so Lakewood stays 4 games in front of Delmarva with 7 games to go. Lakewood wasted another good effort from Jason Knapp, who continues to pitch well, but in hard luck. Knapp went 5.1 innings, allowing no EARNED runs on 2 hits, with 5 walks, 7 strike outs and hitting 97 MPH on the gun on a few occasions. Jason has given up just 1 earned run in his last 17.1 innings of work. Delmarva scored 5 unearned runs en route to a 5-1 win in the opener.

Lakewood bounced back for a rain shortened 6-4 win in the nightcap. Trevor May made his debut and was impressive, striking out 8 in just 3.2 innings. He did seem to lose a little after the rain delay, allowing a 3-run home run to Garabez Rosa, but the offense gave him the runs back.

On the night, Travis D'Arnaud had a single, a double, and a triple, adding an RBI and a run scored. Travis Mattair had 2 hits and 3 walks, and Anthony Gose had 2 hits and stole 2 more bases, extending his league leading total to 41.

Lakewood will try to capture the rubber game of this series and put a stranglehold on first place tonight, with Heitor Correa (3-2) going to the mound.

I have a busy work day, so I will catch up on the rest of Monday's action tomorrow.

What are the 7 games to go?...7 more meetings between those teams, or what?

Lakewood has 1 more with Delmarva, then 2 in Hagerstown (WED & THUR), and then come back for 4 in 3 days over the weekend against Lake County.

It is a split season, the first half ends Sunday, then we wipe the slate clean and start at 0-0 again.
