Maloney blanks Yanks

Matt Maloney threw a 3-hit shut out against the Scranton Yankees Monday afternoon, striking out 10 and walking none. Maloney improved to 4-3 with an excellent 2.00 ERA in his 10 starts for the Louisville Bats. In his last 5 starts, Matt has pitched 37 innings, giving up just 3 earned runs (that's 0.73 over the span) on 16 hits and 5 walks, striking out 35. Anybody in the Cincinnati front office paying attention here?

In Pittsburgh, Jason Jaramillo had 2 hits, an RBI and scored the winning run in the Pirate's 8-5 come from behind win over the Mets. "JJ" is hitting .269 in 24 games so far with Pittsburgh. In San Diego, Ryan Howard struck out 4 times, but the 5th at bat was a monster home run, his 15th of the year, and 5th in less than a week. Carlos Ruiz had a walk and a hit to increase his average to .305, as the Phillies topped San Diego, 5-3.

Antonio Bastardo will make his major league debut tonight, opposed by Jake Peavey.
